Q hat does the therapist ...
As I like to clarify in my first encounters with people who want a counseling, the therapist's work is equivalent to that of a catalyst in a chemical reaction. You have, often without knowing all the ingredients that you would find a solution to your problem, but you need help that the reaction can finally occur. It is the role of catalyst. As the catalyst, the therapist does not judge, it does not interfere, he does not instead of, and is destined to disappear from the beginning to the end of the reaction . The catalyst is simply accompanying it is a key element but it can do nothing without you and what you bring to the reaction to occur. For you are ultimately the only person in the world to know that the solution will be good for you, the only person with authority to create, implement and live such a solution.
Another metaphor is that of a big rock that we seek to move to bare hand without success. As long as we stick above the nose, this rock seems impossible to move. But with hindsight and if we manage to find the right lever, like a big tree branch, we can achieve what seemed impossible so far. The work of the psychologist is to help find the point of falling, then the right lever to successfully move the rock. But whatever happens the force pressing the lever is still yours ..
